Hi all....I'm an artist who is thinking about selling my artwork/prints to interior designers, but I'm not sure how much I can sell my work for (I've heard that interior designers may expect anywhere from a 10% to 50% discount).
More importantly, I'm hoping someone may have some experience selling directly to interior designers, and will have some very good advice in terms of dealing with interior designers and proven methods of breaking into this market! Thanks for any advice! Steve |

I've never tapped into that market but I would assume that you need to pick up yellow pages and call few such places, request an appointment and take portfolio showcasing your work. You can also direct them to your website if you have one. You might need to ask them what type of media they're interested in as few might want abstracts and others more into realism.
I hope this helps atleast for a start |

I'm trying to sell to interior designers and would be happy to trade ideas. Are you still interested?

I am also interested in that market as well as the wine label market. I intend to go directly to the interior designers (which are plentiful in this town) with a CD of my work or have a sampling of my work in the car for designers nearby. With the wineries, I intend to mail my CD. What I need to know is must I have my images copyrighted? I contacted legalzoom.com and they said each image had to be copyrighted at a price of $149.00 each! Is your work copyrighted....if so any less expensive ways of doing so? Thanks! Pat.

Hi Pat. I responded to your post in another thread about copyrights, but if you want extra legal protection, you can currently register your work with the US Copyright Office. In fact, if you are going to register your work, I wouldn't register it with anyone except the US Copyright Office, as they are the official government organization. I've never heard of legalzoom.com.
Some info: Copyrights are registered at the Copyright Office, Library of Congress. Information concerning copyrights may be obtained from the U.S. Copyright Office, Library of Congress, Washington, DC 20559, or you may visit their web site at: http://www.copyright.gov. Copyright Office specialists are available to answer questions by phone Monday through Friday (except federal holidays) from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Recorded copyright information is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You may contact the Copyright Office at 202 707-3000 or 202 707-6737. It's $45, or $35 if you register online, see http://www.copyright.gov/register/visual.html. Again, it isn't necessary to do this, since you automatically own the copyright in all of your work. A well thought out written contract, signed by both parties, is your best protection. |
