Hi everyone, this is my first post. I've found this forum very informative and entertaining and thought I could benefit from some helpful suggestions.
I am trying to create a sort of antique looking background for my drawings, much like weathered parchment paper. I generally prepare a watercolor or acrylic wash, and draw over it, but I'm finding it challenging to create an antique looking wash/background using watercolor or acrylics? I want the wash to have that old, worn, faded and cracked texture and feel, like you see in really old drawings or parchment.Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

I can think of a number of ways to create the background but what you do with the subject while doing this?

You can take different colors of paint brown tones and layer. While each layer is wet use a sponge or paper or cloth to give it texture, then wipe off some of the paint. Let dry and repeat. After several layers made with different texturing tools you should have something close and then you will see where to go from there.
