Posted October 14, 2006 10:35 AM I wish to paint with acrylics on a raw aluminum surface. What surface preparation/priming is necessary? I am concerned with longevity and don't want any unhappy surprises a few months or even years down the road. Also, I may not cover the entire surface with paint. What type of varnish or sealer can I use on the acrylic painted portion and that would also work for the raw aluminum portion? Studemobile: Posted October 16, 2006 01:28 PM I paint acrylic landscapes on Aluminum Dibond Panels. First I lightly sand then wipe clean with alcohol. Next I prime with Sherwin Williams "Prep Right Bonding Primer". After this is dry I apply my gesso. I prefer a textured random surface so I apply this gesso with a course brush. (Note: I don't use canvas) After the painting is completed and dry I coat with Golden's Satin removeable varnish. mm: Posted October 19, 2006 12:33 AM Thanks so much for the info. I'm going to give it a try. |
