Has anyone heard of this series of "how to sell your art without selling out"- by Steve Popkin. It seems when there's alot hype of wordage on selling something- gets to smell a little fishy. I've seen these selling adds for various other ways to riches. Bottom line-? Does or is there any true way of selling your art that will bring in the profits without spending a small fortune to learn from these sharks? Tom

Hi Tom,
There are many markets and types of buyers for artwork. Fortunately for us artists, there is a host of buyers for most styles and mediums. The key is reaching your portential audience, and know who would buy the type of art that you make. I've worked with professional art marketing advisors. No one advisor has all the answers because the art market is so diverse. I can recommend a couple of books to you, but not on this forum. A lot of selling art takes into your common sense - trying things and seeing what works and what doesn't. It's never an easy or instant process. But I have many friends who make more than a decent living selling their artwork alone... not with teaching or selling art marketing books. It can be done, but your work must connect with an audience. Most of the good books written on art marketing are very long - there is no one simple process that works for everyone. You can email me at lori@lwsimons.com if you'd like more info on a few books that have helped me. Lori |
