Posted January 15, 2007 07:58 AM Are there any great fixatives out there that do not spot and actually "fix" the pastel? Please let me know if you have discovered something wonderful. Thanks! bevhanna: Posted February 15, 2007 05:39 PM I use Krylon Workable Fixative. It dries quickly, with minimal spotting. One caveat, however...if you use multiple layers of spray, eventually (usually after three applications) it starts to become shiny, and there is less "tooth" to work with. It does darken down the lights and midtones, but because it's workable, you can bring them back by going over them again. It has the advantage of darkening the darks as well, so you end up with a longer grey scale. Bev http://www.bevhanna.com |

I've been fighting this issue for years and recently discovered that a fabric steamer works incredibly well (the good ones with a hose). And no odor either!

May I ask, why do you want to spray your pastel work?
Thank you, Paula |

Hi Paula, I just was reading thec omments, and I know you wrote that a long time ago, but you're totally right! I don't fix my pastels, but I have had clients who wanted them fixed. And, as a former framer, I know how hard it is to frame a pastel, so I was just looking to see if there was something that just gives them a bit more staying power. But, I do love the way they look with nothing, just pure color. Thanks!
